Shiv Sena MPs support Droupadi Murmu for presidential elections

16 of the party’s 18 lawmakers attended the meeting, according to party MP Gajanan Kirtikar, who also stated that Uddhav Thackeray will announce his choice in a day or two.

“She is an NDA candidate but Droupadi Murmu belongs to the tribal community and is a woman. We should give her our support – this was the demand by all MPs (of the party). Uddhav ji told us that he will tell us his decision in a day or two,” Kirtikar said.

“We had supported Pratibha Patil, a UPA candidate, as she’s a Marathi woman. We had supported Pranab Mukherjee, a UPA candidate. Uddhavji will announce support to her (Droupadi Murmu) as she’s a tribal woman. We should see beyond politics for the Presidential election,” he added.

On July 18, voters will cast their ballots in the presidential election, and on July 21, the results will be tallied.
Yashwant Sinha is the nominee of the opposition parties, and Droupadi Murmu is the presidential candidate of the BJP-led NDA.

Last month’s Shiv Sena uprising in in Uddhav Thackeray’s resignation as chief minister of the MVA government, which also included Congress and NCP.

On June 30, Eknath Shinde, the Shiv Sena rebel leader, took the oath of office as chief minister. Devendra Fadnavis, a BJP politician, took an oath to serve as deputy chief minister.

The YSRCongress Party, BJD, and Akali Dal all endorse the NDA presidential candidate.

To enlist the help of lawmakers, she has been travelling to other states.

Former minister for Odisha and former governor of Jharkhand, Droupadi Murmu.

She would become India’s second woman president and the nation’s first tribal leader if she were to win the election. The first presidential candidate from Odisha to represent a significant political party or coalition is Droupadi Murmu.
