Shivraj Patil draws link between 'Jihad' and Gita

Shivraj Patil recently asserted that the notion of “jihad” is included not only in Quran but also in Bhagwad Gita and in Christianity

Former Union home minister and Congress veteran Shivraj Patil recently asserted that the notion of “jihad” is included not only in Quran but also in Bhagwad Gita and in Christianity. This statement has now sparked debate.

At a book signing event in the capital on Thursday, Patil claimed that Arjun was also given jihadi principles by Lord Krishna in a section of the Mahabharata’s Gita. BJP has criticised Congress for “Hindu bigotry” and “votebank tactics” in response to Patil’s comments.

“Jihad is reportedly a topic of great dispute within Islamic faith. Power can be employed if someone still doesn’t comprehend clean concepts after all of your attempts. It appears in the Mahabharata, of which the Gita is a part, as well as the Quran Sharif “said Patil.

He further went on to say that “Arjuna and Shri Krishna also discussed jihad. It is stated not only in Gita or the Quran but also stated in Christianity. According to Christ, I have not come to build peace; rather, I have come bearing sword.”

Congress leader declared in Hindi that “If even after explaining everything, people still do not understand and they are arriving with weapons then you cannot run, you cannot call that jihad and you cannot call it wrong, this is what must be understood, there should not be this concept of making people understand with weapons in hand.”

At the book launch for Congress politician and former Union Minister Mohsina Kidwai, Patil, who served as the Union’s home minister from 2004 to 2008 and as Speaker of the Lok Sabha from 1991 to 1996, addressed the crowd. Shashi Tharoor, Digvijaya Singh, Farooq Abdullah, and Sushil Kumar Shinde were among the prominent dignitaries in attendance during the event.

In the meantime, BJP has also criticised Congress’ “votebank politics.”
