Basavaraja Bommai, chief minister of Karnataka, ordered a comprehensive investigation into death threats made to Siddaramaiah, leader of opposition in the state Assembly on Friday.

Bommai said that the state administration had agreed to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter of Siddaramaiah’s death threat. Bommai in a statement said “We are serious about this matter. Additionally, I contacted and spoke with the Director General of Police. Police will look into the situation. I’ve instructed you to give the leader of the opposition proper security. No one should ever say anything like that to cause others to think something.”

Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah said he received death threats during the controversy over his comments on Veer Savarkar.

Earlier on Friday, Karnataka Congress organised a demonstration to denounce the egg attack that occurred when Siddaramaiah was visiting the Kodagu district.

The members of Congress seek the arrest of everyone responsible for egging of Siddaramaiah’s vehicle when he was there.

BJP supporters allegedly staged a “gherao” protest against Siddaramaiah’s car in Kodagu on Thursday in response to his remarks on Veer Savarkar while visiting the area to meet with flood and heavy rain victims, according to the claims made by the Congress supporters.

Congress leader Siddaramaiah issued a warning to the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday after receiving anger from BJP supporters over his comment about VD Savarkar, saying that his party will “teach them a lesson” after winning the next Assembly elections.

Siddaramaiah travelled to Kodagu regions of Madenadu and Koyanadu, where devastation from torrential rains had occurred. He spoke to the victims as well.

BJP workers protested against the Congress leader for his comments over the poster dispute in Shivamogga. The employees went to the streets, yelled anti-former Chief Minister chants, and flew a black flag over General Thimmaiah’s circle.

Siddaramaiah condemned the event and said that the BJP paid people to demonstrate against him.
