Bombay HC Orders Those Feeding Stray Dogs to "Formally Adopt" Them

The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court directed everyone who’s interested in feeding stray dogs to formally adopt them.

In addition to issuing a number of directives governing the feeding of stray dogs, the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court on Saturday instructed anyone interested in feeding dogs to “officially adopt” them.

The Court issued a number of orders and instructed the police and civic leaders to take “severe measures” against anybody impeding their ability to address the threat posed by stray dogs. The court mandated that anybody planning to feed stray animals must first legally adopt them and limit their feeding to within their own houses.

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) contesting parts of the Delhi Municipal Act 1957 that provide the civic body the authority to “detain” and “kill” unregistered/street/stray dogs seen wandering in public areas was served notice by the Delhi High Court earlier on Friday.

It should be mentioned that there have recently been a number of complaints about stray dogs around the nation.

A one-year-old boy was brutally attacked and killed by a stray dog on Monday, in a tragic occurrence that resulted in widespread protests.
The boy was treated for his injuries at a hospital after being brought there right afterward, but he passed away from them late that night, according to the Gautam Budh Nagar Police.
