Despite recent speculation that he would leave the party, Congress national general secretary in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala met veteran party leader K H Muniyappa on Sunday and held talks.

Following his meeting with Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai and health minister K Sudhakar on August 26, there was speculation that the former Union minister would join the BJP.

However, Muniyappa, who is upset with the State Congress leaders for admitting a couple of local leaders in Kolar into the party without his knowledge, has immediately clarified that he has no intention of leaving the party and that his meeting with the CM was to discuss the development of the “Adi Jambava mutt.”

Both the AICC General Secretary and Muniyappa insisted that today’s meeting was personal because they have known each other since Surjewala’s father was alive.

“I had come here to meet him (Muniyappa), as well as to discuss Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra and the campaign related to it in Karnataka, as well as to ensure that the Congress party addresses the issues of the downtrodden sections which he has championed for the last three decades of his life in the most effective manner,” Surjewala told reporters after the meeting.

Despite the fact that it was a personal visit, Muniyappa stated that they discussed organising the party and restoring it to power in the state.

“I have already expressed my concerns to the high command, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, as well as Surjewala, and will await their decision…..

I’m still a member of the Congress party. “There will be ups and downs in a large party, and there is nothing one can do about it,” he responded to a question.

Muniyappa, a veteran leader who has served in Lok Sabha seven times, recently expressed his displeasure with State Congress president D K Shivakumar and Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah for keeping him out of the party while admitting local leaders M C Sudhakar and Kothanur Manjunath.
He is also said to be angry at a few members of his own party for causing his defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, and especially at former Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar, who is the MLA for Srinivaspura in Kolar district, for the way Congress affairs have been handled in the district, which has long been a Congress stronghold.

Muniyappa had openly criticised Ramesh Kumar on several occasions.
