A 110-meter-high, 27-year-old chimney at Tata Steel’s Jamshedpur factory was collapsed in 11 seconds using the implosion method in a safe and environmentally sustainable manner.
According to Vice President of Tata Steel Plant, Avneesh Gupta, “The 110-meter-high chimney of Jamshedpur plant’s battery number 5 was removed utilising the implosion method, which made the demolition procedure safe for personnel. It also saved time and was better for the environment. The smoke tower was destroyed in 11 seconds.”
The duty of dismantling the chimney of the coke plant’s closed batter was assigned to Edifice Engineering India of South Africa, with assistance from J Demolition Company.
The same firm destroyed Noida’s twin buildings on August 28. The Apex (32 storeys) and Ceyane (29 floors) buildings, which were 100 metres tall and taller than the Qutub Minar in the national capital, were brought down using explosives weighing at least 3,700 kg in the largest ever planned tower demolition effort.
Avneesh Gupta, VP of Tata Steel, added that the demolition was carried out effectively and in a planned manner, since it dropped down zero-degree, did not result in any deaths, and was also carried out in an environmentally responsible manner.
