Elon's Twitter to Axe out Employees, Begins Mass Layoffs

According to a staff letter obtained by the media, Twitter will email its workers on Friday morning to let them know if they would be laid off.

In accordance with a memo provided to staff, Twitter will email employees on Friday morning to let them know if they will be laid off, according to the media agency.

“In an attempt to set Twitter on a healthy path, we will go through the unpleasant process of decreasing our worldwide staff on Friday,” the email, which Reuters also had access to, reads.

This comes a week after Twitter was taken over by billionaire Elon Musk, and it confirms several rumours that the new owner of the microblogging service was considering mass layoffs as a way to reduce expenses.

The email doesn’t specify how many workers would be let go, but Musk is anticipated to fire almost half of Twitter’s 7,500-person workforce.

Employees will be notified by email by 9 am (local time) on November 4 whether they have been let go or not, according to the corporate memo. Additionally, it specifies that employee badge access would be halted and all offices will be temporarily shuttered.

To “help secure the safety of each employee, as well as Twitter systems and customer data,” this is being done.

The announcement of layoffs brings to an end a week of purges by Musk during which he sought significant cost reductions and enforced a combative new work ethic throughout the social media giant.

The CEO of Tesla has previously fired the top financial and legal executives in addition to the company’s CEO. Over the course of the previous week, several executives left, including those in charge of the company’s marketing, advertising, and human resources departments.
