Vigilance Bureau Arrests Ex-Punjab Minister for Offering Bribe

Former minister Sundar Sham Arora was detained by the Punjabi Vigilance Bureau (VB) for bribing an Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of the Bureau with Rs. 50 lakh.

An FIR has reportedly been filed against the former minister Sundar Sham Arora under section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act based on the testimony of AIG, Vigilance Bureau, Flying Squad, Punjab Manmohan Kumar, according to a news release from Vigilance Bureau Punjab.

AIG Manmohan Kumar alleged that Arora met with him on October 14 and offered him Rs 1 crore in exchange for a favourable outcome in a vigilance investigation that had been opened against him, according to Chief Director of the Punjabi Vigilance Bureau Varinder Kumar.

The director of the Vigilance Bureau further stated that the former minister has volunteered to pay Rs. 50 lakh on October 14 and the remaining amount on a later date.

He stated that the top director had been alerted by the AIG and had instructed the registration of a bribery case against Arora. Arora has been detained in this matter, and Rs 50 lakh has been taken from him.
Further research is now being conducted.
