Villagers attack police station in Bihar over custodial death of man, several cops injured

Following the murder of a guy who was supposedly in prison on Saturday, a mob of villagers assaulted a police station in the Katihar region of Bihar. Several police officers were hurt in the attack.

The event was reported from the Pranpur police station in the Katihar district, where there was a commotion following the suspected death of a guy who was detained by police after being caught on suspicion of smuggling alcohol. Following the event, villagers stormed the police station.

Police claim that many on-duty employees were hurt when several people assaulted them and destroyed the police station. The wounded police officers were sent to Katihar Sadar Hospital for medical attention.

According to locals, the dead Pramod, an Amrol native, was detained by the police on Friday night on suspicion of importing alcohol. According to the locals, he passed away in the police station on Saturday morning.

Villagers said that Pramod died as a result of police beatings.

The corpse was sent to Katihar Sadar Hospital in the meantime for a post-mortem. The Katihar Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) visited the Pranpur police station following the event to assess the situation.
