An employee of the American computer company Microsoft inadvertently stated that Windows 11’s Notepad tool will include tabs.
According to the media reports, an American technology news website, the employee, a senior product manager at Microsoft, uploaded a snapshot of a version of Notepad with tabs. “Notepad in Windows 11 now has tabs!” he exclaimed with a megaphone emoji.
Microsoft internal warning was included in the screenshot: “Confidential Don’t talk about features or take screenshots.” According to the report, Microsoft’s tabs functionality is still in early internal testing.
The message was deleted minutes later, but not before Windows Central and numerous other Windows fan Twitter accounts saw it.
Reports claimed, if Microsoft adds tabs to Notepad, it will be the first built-in utility to have a tabbed interface, following the addition of tabs to File Explorer earlier this year.
Microsoft initially attempted tabs across all Windows 10 programmes four years ago in a feature called Sets. This included tab capabilities in Notepad and File Explorer, however, Microsoft cancelled the project and never made it available to Windows 10 consumers.
The inclusion of tabs in Notepad may herald a trend toward tabs appearing in more built-in Windows programmes.
Although Microsoft removed the Sets feature from Windows 10, this hasn’t stopped Windows power users from bringing tabs to life in various sections of the operating system using third-party tools and apps.
