WhatsApp launches desktop version

The popular and widely used messaging application on smart phones, WhatsApp Messenger recently released its desktop version for Windows and Mac.
The application, until now, was only available on mobile phones. However, there was a ‘WhatsApp web’ option available for users who wanted to configure their WhatsApp on their desktops and laptops through their smart phones.
WhatsApp Messenger is an American proprietary cross-platform instant messaging client for smart phones. It uses the Internet to send text messages, documents, images, video, user location and audio media messages to other users using standard cellular mobile numbers.
WhatsApp Inc was founded in 2009 by Brian Acton and Jan Koum, both former employees of Yahoo!
WhatsApp also confirmed the same on its official blog page:
Introducing WhatsApp's desktop app
Today we're introducing a desktop app so you have a new way to stay in touch anytime and anywhere - whether on your phone or computer at home or work. Like WhatsApp Web, our desktop app is simply an extension of your phone: the app mirrors conversations and messages from your mobile device.
The new desktop app is available for Windows 8+ and Mac OS 10.9+ and is synced with WhatsApp on your mobile device. Because the app runs natively on your desktop, you'll have support for native desktop notifications, better keyboard shortcuts, and more.
