New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Tourism has conferred Gangtok, capital of Sikkim, the ‘Cleanest Tourist Destination’.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 30 handed over the award in New Delhi, an official release said.
The award was received by the Commissioner of Gangtok Municipal Corporation.
Chandigarh and Mysore were awarded as ‘Clean Cities in million plus population category’.
Urban Development and Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation responsible for implementing the flagship programme, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban and Gramin), had organised a workshop at Vigyan Bhawan, in New Delhi on Friday.
The chief ministers of many states and ministers in-charge of the Swachh Bharat Mission had participated in the workshop.
The Sikkim delegation was led by Minister, UD and HD, NK Subba, Mayor GMC, PCE/Secretary – UD and HD, Municipal Commissioner, State Mission Directors (Urban and Gramin) , Officials and Panchayats, ADCs-Development Namchi and Gyalshing.
