In an official statement today, Pakistan said that it has made considerable progress in investigation carried out against terror elements reportedly linked to the Pathankot terror attack.
Based on the initial investigation in Pakistan and the information provided by Pakistani media, several individuals who belong to the JeM outfit in Pakistan and who are believed to be behind the Pathankot terror attack have been arrested.
The information was issued after Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired a high-level meet and previewed the prevailing security situation in the country. The meeting was attended by the Chief Minister of Punjab in Pakistan, Cops & Commander Lahore, Director Generals and other senior officials.
The meeting was noted with satisfaction as part of Pakistan’s commitment to eliminate terrorism from its soil and resolve the national issue of protecting territories to be used for acts of terrorism anywhere.
As per initial reports, offices of the JeM were traced and sealed. Further investigation is underway. It was also mentioned in the statement that in order to get more information and carry the investigation forward, Pakistan is considering sending the Special Investigation Team to Pathankot in consultation with the Government of India.
The Pakistani premier high-level meet reiterated that in tandem with the decision to counter and completely eliminate terrorism, Pakistan will remain engaged with India on this issue.
However, the Government of India has said that they have not been informed officially about any of the arrests made by Pakistan.
