New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday greeted the people of Brunei on their national day and said that the country is an important partner in India’s ‘Act East’ policy.

“I have great pleasure in extending warm greetings to your Majesty and the people of Brunei on the occasion of your National Day,” Mukherjee said in his message to Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the head of state and monarch of Brunei.

“Brunei is an important partner in India’s ‘Act East’ Policy,” he added.

“India and Brunei have long enjoyed close ties of friendship and I am confident that our ongoing exchanges in various spheres will enable an even closer partnership between our two countries and elevate our relationship to greater heights in the years to come,” said the president.

Brunei is located on the north coast of the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia.

Mukherjee also wished the sultan for his good health and personal well-being and for the continued progress and prosperity of the people of Brunei Darussalam.
