Hesston (Kansas): As many as four people were killed and 20 others injured in a series of multiple shootings on Thursday in Hesston, Kansas.
The gunman was neutralised by authorities.
There were “four to five” different crime scenes in the area including the Excel Industries plant in Hesston where dispatchers earlier said they were responding to a shooting, said Harvey County Sheriff T. Walton.
Before the shooting took place inside the Excel building, two other shootings nearby and one shooting in the plant parking lot had taken place.
According to the Sheriff, the suspect was an Excel employee.
An exact number of people killed and injured couldn’t be given at present, said Walton.
“We want to get everybody identified. We’re working on that,” Walton added.
The FBI and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation had been called in to assist.
More information is expected at the next briefing by authorities at 9 p.m. local time.
In 2013, Excel Industries was awarded the Governor’s Exporter of the Year award from the Kansas Department of Commerce. The company manufactures Hustler and Big Dog mowing equipment and was founded in Hesston in 1960.
Hesston is a community of about 3,700 residents about 35 miles north of Wichita.
