PM Modi meets Netaji’s grandnephew in Berlin

BERLIN: Amid row over snooping on close relatives of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met grand nephew of Netaji in Berlin on Monday late night.

Surya Kumar Bose met PM Modi after attending a reception hosted by Indian Ambassador in Modi’s honour and raised the issue of declassification of all secret files related to the freedom fighter.

Surya Bose, the President of the Indo-German Association in Hamburg, was invited by the Indian Embassy to attend the reception for Modi.

According to the reports, after the meeting was over, Surya said, “The declassification of all secret files was discussed and PM Modi has assured that he would seriously look into this matter and will make a decision.”

On Sunday, Bose's grandnephew Surya Kumar Bose had said, "Subhas Bose did not belong just to his direct family. He had himself said that the whole country is his family. I do not think that it's just the duty of the family to raise this issue."

In an RTI reply, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has refused to declassify secret files related to Netaji arguing that the "disclosure would prejudicially affect relations with foreign countries."
