Ecuador: An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter Scale occurred near Portoviejo, Ecuador at around 3 am on Apr 22, 2016.

This is the second tremor in the region after an earthquake with a moment magnitude of 7.8 and a depth of 19.2 kilometres had destroyed thousands of lives just a week back on April 16, 2016.

Over 550 people were killed and over 7000 were injured in the earthquake which is touted as the worst natural disaster to hit Ecuador since the 1949 Ambato earthquake.
