New Delhi: Sen. Ted Cruz announced on Tuesday that he was ending his run for the White House. This came after he suffered a devastating loss to front-runner Donald Trump in Indiana.
The Texas firebrand concluded his presidential campaign saying, “From the beginning I said that I would continue on as long as there is a viable path to victory. Tonight, I’m sorry to say, it appears that path has been foreclosed.”
“Together, we left it all on the field in Indiana. We gave it everything we’ve got but the voters chose another path. And so with a heavy heart but with boundless optimism for the long-term future of the nation, we are suspending our campaign.”
Trump locked down the Republican nomination with a win in Indiana, while Sanders and Clinton remain deadlocked.
Trump is now the presumptive nominee, GOP chairman Reince Preibus declared.

With Ted Cruz exiting the presidential campaign, the GOP race is down to Trump vs. Kasich.
Carly Fiorina, Cruz’s pick for vice president, said, “This is a man who favours substance over sloganeering.”
A CNN poll on Monday had predicted that 91 per cent of Republicans believe that Trump will be their nominee.
