President Dilma Rousseff stands suspended

Brasilia: In light of the recent political developments in Brazil, the Senate voted on Thursday to suspend the President Dilma Rousseff and begin an impeachment trial against her.
This marks ousting of a leader whose sagging political fortunes triggered widespread public anger over high level of corruption and a battered economy.
In a vote of 55 to 22, lawmakers accepted the charges against Rousseff, accusing her of borrowing from state banks to conceal a budget deficit, ahead of the elections for electoral benefit.

Vice-President Michel Temer will now assume the presidency while Ms Rousseff's trial takes place.
