A week after devastating earthquake rocked Nepal and adjoining areas including India, a moderate intensity earthquake of 5.4 magnitude on Friday jolted the Andaman Islands.
The earthquake hit Andaman region at 2:29 PM and no loss was reported immediately.
The epicentre of the quake was reported 135 km Southwest of Port Blair and the depth was measured as 10 km, said IMD official.
“We are monitoring the quake in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The quake was not so powerful that can cause of any damage” said MeT official.
Earlier in the day, a 7.1 magnitude quake rocked Papua New Guinea, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.
Two more earthquakes were reported earlier on Saturday. While the first was reported in Nepal aftershocks with 3.8 magnitude, the second one was in Tuensang in Nagaland with 4.8 magnitude.
