New Delhi: Various entities and green campaigners around the world on Saturday celebrated the International Biodiversity Day by participating in awareness campaigns to protect and conserve variety of life on the planet.
Pushpa Gujral Science City organised an event to mark the International Biodiversity Day in Punjab’s Jalandhar.
Individuals including experts and academicians of the states participated in the one-day event.
Addressing the occasion, Director of Science City, Rajesh Grover said adoption of various security and conservation measures on this earth to curb the menace of global warming is essential.
Painting and science-play competition were also organised on this occasion for the students. More than 300 students from all over Punjab participated in these competitions.
The divisional office of the wildlife department in Abbottabad, Pakistan also organised a function in to observe International Biological Diversity Day.
On the occasion, the divisional officer for wildlife, Iftikharuz Zaman, said the coexistence of different kinds of animals and plants makes a balanced environment and is therefore imperative for human life.
The United Nations has proclaimed May 22 the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues.
