Albinos getting raped and murdered in Africa

New Delhi: Albinism, a congenital condition characterized by the complete or partial absence of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes; has shockingly resulted in multiple rapes and murder of people in Malawi, a country in Africa.
Albinistic people in Malawi are being butchered for their body parts on superstitions that their limbs have magical powers to cure deadly diseases. At least 69 people with albinism were documented in November 2014, according to the reports.
A latest report from Amnesty International suggests not only does the police lack in adequate training and skills needed to investigate such crimes but also accuses Malawian police and government of failing to protect the albino population.
Incidentally, Albinism is more common in sub-Saharan Africa than other parts of the world. Superstitions about the condition are reportedly rife  in Malawi and neighboring Tanzania and Mozambique regions.
International Committee of the Red Cross puts the number in dollars amounting to around $75,000 that a gang can make by selling body parts of these people. It is also believed that having physical relations with albino woman can cure HIV, which puts such a women at a greater risk for rape.
While the police claim it is making all efforts to nab the culprits, people suffereing from this disease are living in constant fear in the absence of vacuumn of public knowledge.
