New Delhi: At least five people were killed when a Turkish military helicopter crashed on Tuesday in the north-eastern province of Giresun in the Black Sea region of northeast Turkey. The helicopter was carrying 14 people including a brigadier general, a colonel and some senior officers when it crashed.

“There have been deaths and injuries,” Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim told journalists in the western province in Izmir, adding that 15 people had been onboard.

“Five deaths and perhaps more.”

Rescue teams and ambulances were sent to the site of the crash.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
