New Delhi: Adding to recurring instances of police brutality in the United States, a black man was shot at point-blank range by a policeman during a routine traffic stop at the city of Minneapolis.
Philando Castile, a 32-year-old black man, was out in a vehicle accompanied by his girlfriend when a policeman stopped the vehicle for a routine check-up. According to Philando's girlfriend, the police asked for registration and license from Philando. However, when Philando reached out for his license, the policeman allegedly shot him point-blank.
The woman, Lavish Reynolds, uploaded the video on Facebook where Philando is seen blood-soaked and the policeman pointing the gun at him. "Oh my god, please don't tell me he's dead, please don't tell my boyfriend just went like that... You shot four bullets into him, sir," the woman is heard saying in the video.
Reynold's video garnered a massive one million views before it was taken down by Facebook. But Facebook later restored the video with a graphic warning.
After the confrontation, Philando was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Philando used to work as a cafeteria supervisor at a school in St Paul school district.
