New Delhi: Security forces in Dhaka, Bangladesh engaged in intense gunfight on early morning of Tuesday with militants who shouted "Allahu Akbar" while firing the shots.
Taking place at Road No. 5 next to a girl's high school as reported by the press in Bangladesh, the attack occurred around 3 AM on Tuesday in Kalyanpur area of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Security forces, on gathering intel, had raided House No. 5 on Road 5, known as Jahaj Bari. The raid operation was named "Operation Storm 26".
Nine militants were killed in the ambush and two others were caught alive by the law enforcement agencies. It was the militants who fired against the security forces first.
The authorities first surrounded the site and attacked the militants following which they snooped around for any explosive devices the militants might've planted in the building or the compound.
A militant named Hassan was injured during the crossfire and was immediately taken to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital. It was with the arrest of one militant later which led to the revelation that there were nine other militants hiding in the building.
During the crossfire, the militants also hurled hand grenades at the security forces while firing shots simultaneously.
As of now, it is unclear which organisation the militants are affiliated with.
