China runs TEB-1, its futuristic bus

New Delhi: China's most discussed Transit Elevated Bus (TEB) – a revolutionary straddle – ran its inaugural test in Qinhuangdao in Hebei province on Tuesday.
The TEB-1 is a 22-meter-long, 7.8-meter wide and 4.8-meter-high futuristic bus designed in such a way that lets car drive underneath the vehicle. The bus has a capacity of carrying up to 1,400 passengers.
As per reports, the bus is powered by electricity and can replace 40 conventional buses which can save more than 800 tonnes of fuel annually and reduce 2,480 tonnes of carbon emissions.
The bus was first revealed in 2010 and again on last May at Beijing’s 19th International High-Tech Expo which made headlines across the world. Soon, the developers announced that the TEB would be ready for its test-run in August and now, it is a reality.
Song Youzhou, the chief engineer of the TEB 1 bus said," "The biggest advantage is that the bus will save lots of road space," the project's chief engineer, Song Youzhou, told state-media agency Xinhua earlier this year.
Bai Zhiming, another engineer said, "The TEB has the same functions as the subway, while its cost of construction is less than one fifth of the subway."
