Magnitude of 7.5 strikes the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu

New Delhi: A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 struck the South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu triggering a tsunami warning, said the United States Geological Survey.

Reports said the quake was measured at a depth of about 10 km.

A tsunami warning was issued for areas close to the quake epicentre by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre although there was no Pacific-wide threat.

The Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology also sent out an alert confirming there was no tsunami threat to the islands and territories of Australia.
