New Delhi: A powerful earthquake measuring 7.1 on richter scale hit New Zealand on Thursday. As per the reports by United States Geological Survey, the earthquake hit about 100 miles off the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island.
Estimated at a depth of 30 kilometres, the tremor was felt some 167 kilometres from Gisborne, a city in the northeartern New Zealand.
So far, no casualties have been reported.
Last month a powerful 6.2 magnitude earthquake hit Italy claiming as many as 291 lives.
