First face transplant patient Isabella dies after 'prolonged illness'

New Delhi: Isabelle Dinoire, world's first woman to undergo face transplant recently succumbed to two types of cancer earlier this summer after a decade taking powerful immunosuppressant drugs. This news was confirmed by the Hospital officials on Tuesday.
Isabelle made headlines in 2005 after she underwent face transplantation after she face was left disfigured by her Labrador who apparently left her face ripped off.
On the night of the incident Isabella, a divorced mother of two just remembered waking up with blood on the floor of her flat. Soon she discovered that her facial features were missing. In November 2005 she was given a new nose, mouth and chin at Amiens Hospital. Although she gained sensation in her transplanted face but she regularly suffered graft rejection.
