New Delhi: China continues to provide cover for Pakistani terrorist Masood Azhar. This has come as a huge setback for India. China has extended a technical hold on Masood Azhar and had objected listing Masood Azhar as a terrorist.

China on Saturday said its technical hold on India’s move to get Pakistan terrorist Masood Azhar designated as a terrorist by the United Nations has been extended.

“The technical hold on India’s listing application submitted to the 1267 committee in March, 2016 has already been extended,” foreign ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang told PTI.

“There are still different a views on India’s listing application. The extended technical hold on it will allow more time for the committee to deliberate on the matter and for relevant parties to have further consultations,” Geng said.

China was the only country in the 15-nation UN delegation to put a hold on India’s application to brand Masood Azhar a terrorist. All other 14 countries of the Council supported India’s bid to place Azhar on the 1267 sanctions list that would subject him to an assets freeze and travel ban.
