New Delhi: Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari stoked controversy after he non-chalantly said that his wife (The First Lady) "belonged in the kitchen" after being asked by reporters about the public criticism that came his way from Aisha Buhari.

Muhammadu Buhari was in Germany with German Chancellor Angela Merkel by his side when reporters asked him about his wife's opinion about his governance. "I don't know which party my wife belongs to, but she belongs to my kitchen and my living room and the other room," Buhari said as Angela Merkel chuckled by his side.

Aisha Buhari, the first lady of Nigeria, had said in a BBC interview that her husband was not acquainted with many top government appointees and exclaimed that the top leaders did not share the vision of All Progressives Congress Party.

"He is yet to tell me, but I have decided as his wife that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will never do it again," Aisha Buhari said.
