New Delhi: Celebrating Thanksgiving after the election shock where Republican candidate Donald Trump went on to surpass Democrat Hillary Clinton, United States President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama spent their last Thanksgiving at the White House by serving US war veterans.

Obama, whose legacy has been threatened by the barging-in of Donald Trump, called for unity in the country in his Thanksgiving speech. “We have a lot more in common than divides us,” said Obama, who challenged the American people to show the world that the United States was a country filled with generous people.

President Obama and the first family, after the ceremony, served Thanksgiving meals to residents of the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, a campus which houses 405 retired service members who fought for American in the 1st World War.

While serving the turkey and gravy, Obama chatted with the veterans while First Lady Michelle Obama served beans and spinach. Their daughter Sasha served the mashed potatoes and the sauce.
