As per media reports several people are feared injured after a massive explosion took place near the Punjab Assembly at Mall Road, Lahore in Pakistan.

DIG Traffic Police Captain Ahmed Mubeen and SSP Gondal have been killed in the blast. Among the injured are several policemen, women and media persons.

Sources revealed that at the time of explosion a protest over changes in the drug act was taking place. As per initial reports, many are feared injured and there is a possibility that some lives might have been lost in the blast.

The injured have been rushed for immediate care to nearby hospitals. Following the explosion, a contingent of police reached the site of the explosion.

Media representatives were also present at the site of protest when the explosion took place.

Rescue teams have been deployed to the spot.

Lahore was the site of an Easter Day bombing in 2016 that killed more than 70 people in a public park.

Reacting on the blast, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that the Lahore Blast was a suicide attack.

As per media reports,  the Lahore explosion toll reached 16, including 3 top police officers and over 60 people were reported to be severely injured.
