US President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump ‘s act of filling in her father’s seat during an official event at the Group of 20 summit has raised quite a few eyebrows.

The picture of 35-year-old Trump sitting next to prominent world leaders like Xi Jinping, Angela Merkel and Recep Tayyip Erdogan was taken by a member of Russian delegation and has drawn sharp criticism against Trump administration on social media.

It is important to note that Trump Administration has been accused of nepotism in the past as well for putting family members in top White House positions. Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner serve as advisors to Donald Trump and accompany him on his foreign trips as well.

Meanwhile, the White House has come out in defence of Ivanka and said she had joined the table only for a brief amount of time since the topic of discussion was relevant to her.

“Ivanka was sitting in the back and then briefly joined the main table when the president had to step out,” the official said.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel also decided to play down the incident and said it is upto delegations to decide who fills in the table when their president is not there.

“The delegations themselves decide, should the president not be present for a meeting, who will take the chair, and Ivanka Trump was part of the American delegation,” she said.
