A moderate intensity earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter Scale hit Nepal on Friday morning, the India Meteorological Department said in an alert. The earthquake happened at around 8:20 am this morning and had a depth of 10 km. The epicenter of the earthquake was located at longitude 86.1812 and latitude 27.7986, 83 km east of Kathmandu. As of now, there are no immediate reports of loss of life or property.

In 2015, Nepal was hit by a massive earthquake resulting in the death of 9,000 people and injuring nearly 22,000. Its epicenter was east of Gorkha District at Barpak, Gorkha. The earthquake was the worst natural disaster to strike Nepal since the 1934 Nepal–Bihar earthquake. The earthquake resulted in an avalanche on Mount Everest, making April 25, 2015 the deadliest day for the people of Nepal.
