In a tragic incident being reported from Texas Tech University in Texas, US, a police officer was shot dead at the Texas Police department’s headquarters. According to police reports, the incident took place on Monday night (Tuesday morning, India time) at 8PM. The Texas Tech police has registered the case and are currently searching for the suspect involved in the fatal shooting incident of Monday night. As per reports, the tragic incident took place at the police building on Flint Avenue. The incident took place after the campus police officers were called in for a ‘welfare check’ of the University campus including student rooms.

Commenting on the matter, a spokesperson from Texas Tech University said that the police had conducted a welfare check at a student’s room earlier in the night. The spokesperson also added that during the check, the police found evidence of drugs and drug paraphernalia. Later, when the police brought the student back to the police station at Flint Avenue for debriefing, the student reportedly pulled out a gun and shot an officer in the head.

 

The shooter still remains at large, says the University spokesman Jonathan Seaborn. According to reports, the suspect, a student at the Tech University, has been identified as Hollis Daniels, a 19-year-old freshman from Seguin. Later, the Tech Police nabbed the accused and the lockdown on the campus was lifted.

The Twitter handle of the Tech University kept on providing all the latest development on the Texas Tech University shooting incident. The news of the accused being arrested by the security officials was also made public on the University’s social media handle.

Earlier on October 2, at least 58 people were killed and more than 500 injured when a gunman opened fire into an open-air country music concert from Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay Resort’s 32nd floor.
