Six persons were detained by the Uttar Pradesh police on Thursday in relation to the alleged rape and murder of two young Dalit sisters in Lakhimpur Kheri.
The two Dalit sisters were discovered on a tree, hanging. Prashant Kumar, additional director general (ADG) for law and order, stated, “During a Thursday morning encounter with the neighbourhood Nighasan police and SWAT squad in the area of the Nighasan police station, Junaid, Suhail, and Hafeezur Rehman were reportedly taken into custody. Following their interrogation, Chhotu Gautam and the other accused, Karimuddin, were both taken into custody.”
Israel, son of the primary accused Junaid, was found to posses a 315 bore pistol, two live rounds, and an empty shell.
ADG Kumar added that as soon as the incident reached the police’s attention late in the evening, a team sped off to the scene.
“Prompt action was taken under the supervision of SP, Lakhimpur, Sanjeev Sinha and raids were conducted at several areas to apprehend the criminals”, he added. In addition to the local police, IG Range Laxmi Singh from Lucknow was promptly rushed to the scene.
Indian Penal Code’s Sections 302 and 376 as well as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) have been utilised to book the accused.
This occurs the day after the two girls were discovered Wednesday in the Lakhimpur Kheri district hanging from a tree.
Sohail, Hafizul, and Junaid killed the girls after learning that they wanted the accused to wed them; they then called Karimuddin and Arif and had the girls hung to obliterate any potential evidence, according to SP Sanjeev Suman. Suman claims that, save from Chotu, every defendant was a native of the Lalpur hamlet in Lakhimpur Kheri.
All forensic data was reviewed. According to the police, the post-mortem on the deceased was videotaped before the bodies were given to the family for cremation.
