Adheenams hand over ‘Sengol’ to PM Modi on New Parliament inauguration eve

On the eve of the inauguration of the new Parliament building, the Adheenams presented the sacred sceptre, 'Sengol,' to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On the eve of the inauguration of the new Parliament building, the Adheenams presented the sacred sceptre, ‘Sengol,’ to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Additionally, they bestowed a special gift upon PM Modi.
The Adheenams, who traveled to the national capital today, met the Prime Minister at his residence, where he sought their blessings. Earlier in the day, the Adheenams from Dharmapuram and Thiruvavaduthurai arrived in the national capital.
PM Modi received a visit from the Adheenam priests at his residence in the evening, during which he sought their blessings. Sources indicate that the sacred Sengol will be installed in the Lok Sabha of the new Parliament tomorrow, specifically between 8:30 and 9 am.
During the inauguration of the new Parliament building on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will place the historic and sacred “Sengol” inside the Parliament House. A group of 21 Adheenams had previously departed from Chennai to participate in the inauguration ceremony. Among them were Adheenams from Dharmapuram, Palani, Virudhachalam, and Thirukoyilur, who traveled from Chennai to Delhi to attend the event.
On Wednesday, Home Minister Amit Shah expressed that the sacred sceptre ‘Sengol’ holds significant symbolism as it represents the transfer of power from the British to India. He emphasized that the Parliament House is the most fitting and revered location to install the historic ‘Sengol’.
The Sengol, a golden sceptre, was presented to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on the eve of India’s Independence. As per the government, the Sengol had been kept in a museum in Allahabad throughout this period.
On Wednesday, the Home Minister introduced a dedicated website (sengol1947.ignca.gov.in) that provides information and downloadable videos about Sengol. He expressed the desire for the people of India to have access to this content and to gain knowledge about this significant historical event. He emphasized that it is a matter of pride for all.
