The person who raised unpleasant chants against Nupur Sharma and fled the scene, Ajmer Dargah Khadim Gauhar Chishti, would be brought before the court early on Friday morning.

Earlier on Thursday, Chishti was detained in Hyderabad, Telangana, and transported from the airport in Jaipur to Ajmer under security. The two men, Munavvar and Gauhar Chishti were brought to the Kishanganj Police Station in Ajmer and will appear in court this morning.

“Police in Hyderabad, Telangana, have detained Gauhar Chishti. On June 17, he had chanted offensive phrases outside the Dargah” stated Additional SP for Ajmer, Vikas Sangwan. From Hyderabad, Gauhar Chishti and his companion were transported to the airport in Jaipur.

A video purportedly shows the preacher shouting at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah’s grounds.

Gauhar Chisthi, Aadil Chisthi, and Sarwar Chisthi, three Khadim (clerics) of the Dargah, have made incendiary remarks about Nupur Sharma.

The offensive remarks made by clerics against BJP spokeswoman Nupur Sharma, who has since been suspended, have reduced the number of pilgrims visiting Ajmer, which has also hurt local vendors and hotels close to the Sufi shrine.

With his controversial words, Sayed Sarwar Chishti, the Khadim of the Ajmer Sharif Dargah, had sparked a controversy. His son, Syed Aadil Chishti, then made extremely offensive and disparaging remarks against Hindu gods. Aadil Chishti is heard on a video making derogatory remarks about Hindu gods.

His words came in the wake of BJP spokeswoman Nupur Sharma’s now-suspended comments against the Prophet Mohammad, which sparked huge violent demonstrations throughout the nation and attracted censure from certain Gulf nations.
