Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced three major schemes worth over Rs 8,000 crore for disaster management on Tuesday. Shah chaired a meeting with the disaster management departments of states and union territories at Vigyan Bhavan.
Home Minister Amit Shah made an important announcement regarding disaster management, for which a budget of eight thousand crores has been allocated. Providing information about the schemes, Shah stated that Rs 5,000 crore would be utilized for modernizing and expanding management services in the states.
Additionally, Rs 2,500 crore will be allocated to reduce flood risks in cities such as Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, and Pune. Furthermore, Rs 825 crore will be spent on 17 states and union territories under the National Landslide Risk Mitigation Plan.
Following the meeting with disaster management ministers of states and union territories, Shah emphasized that the central government has achieved significant progress in this field over the past nine years. He stated, “We have accomplished a lot, and no one can deny that. However, we cannot be satisfied with just this, as disasters have evolved and intensified. We need comprehensive plans to prepare ourselves for these changes. Disasters are now occurring in new areas as well. Strict protocols have been provided to the states where nuclear power stations are being established to handle emergencies.”
