Asia Cup 2018, India vs Pakistan highlights: India 238/1 after 39.1 overs, beat Pakistan by 9 wickets: After a thumping victory on September 20, Thursday, over arch-rivals Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2018, Rohit Sharma-led Team India will again take on the Green Army but this time the stakes are higher as the winner will book its berth in the finals of the cricketing extravaganza. It’s the round two of the mother of all battles, India vs Pakistan, with Rohit Sharma-led India coming on the back of three consecutive wins on the trot, while Sarfraz Ahmed’s team is looking out of sorts given their narrowly avoided humiliation in their last match against Afghanistan and a crushing defeat against India in the last encounter.
In the last India-Pak encounter, India thrashed Pakistan by 8 wickets with 21 over to spare and will walk with confidence, after staying unbeaten, into Sunday’s game at Dubai International Stadium. All eyes will be on Indian skipper Rohit Sharma who is in fine knock lately while much will be expected from the former talismanic captain MS Dhoni, who has delivered rather underwhelming performances in the tournament so far.
On the other hand, Pakistan’s batting lineup has really struggled in the ongoing Asia Cup and skipper Sarfaraz Nawaz will be hoping his team fire on all cylinders in the crucial encounter.
Out of the 13 times, India and Pakistan met in the Asia Cup, the men in blue have won 7 times, while the green army was victorious five times with one being declared as No Result.
India wins 2nd successive Super Four match
Super performance by Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan help India beat Pakistan by 9 wickets in Dubai! It was a great show and now the men in blue are almost in the summit clash of Asia Cup 2018
India 221/1 after 35.4 overs, Rohit Sharma 101, Ambati Rayudu 5
Rohit Sharma slams 19th 100 off 106 balls. What a game! What a performance! A skipper's knock!
Dhawan is gone. Pakistan gets the first wicket. Hasan Ali runs out him. It was a misunderstanding between the batsmen and Shoaib Malik finished a simple run out chance.
India 198/0 after 32 overs, Rohit Sharma 94, Shikhar Dhawan 103
Fifty for Dhawan! Splendid batting by Dhawan. 16th ODI century for Shikhar Dhawan! What a performance!
India 192/0 after 31.4 overs, Rohit Sharma 92, Shikhar Dhawan 99
The opening stand between Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma is the best opening stand for India vs Pakistan ODIs. The previous record belonged to Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly - 159 in Dhaka (1998).
India 171/0 after 29 overs, Rohit Sharma 82, Shikhar Dhawan 88
Rohit Sharma dropped again! Pakistan has dropped Rohit for the second time, first when he only crossed into the double digits and now after in his 80s. And all is happening in the Shadab Khan over.
India 152/0 after 26 overs, Rohit Sharma 71, Shikhar Dhawan 80
Both openers are inching towards their respective tons. Pakistan's captaincy is poor, but then again when you start to lose nothing seems good and everything falls apart. Same thing is happening for Pak. 238 on Dubai's ground was a defendable total but Rohit-Dhawan made it look like a walk in the park
India 134/0 after 25 overs, Rohit Sharma 57, Shikhar Dhawan 80
Indian openers are enjoying with the Pakistani paces, Dhawan and Rohit are playing their natural game. Big strokes coming from both the players!
India 119/0 after 22 overs, Rohit Sharma 51, Shikhar Dhawan 67
Fifty for Rohit, he's batting splendidly, Dhawan is providing the right support. This is one of the best starts India had against Pakistan. Both are making it hard for the bowlers to maintain their line and length. Rohit is becoming more and more dependable.
India 72/0 after 15 overs, Rohit Sharma 28, Shikhar Dhawan 43
Pakistan's spinning attack is looking for a breakthrough but the Indian openers are looking good. Dhawan is in form, same as Rohit.
India 57/0 after 11 overs, Rohit Sharma 20, Shikhar Dhawan 36
Another good over for India, they're playing it slow and steady. Dhawan is keeping the run rate under India's command. Pakistan is struggling with their bowling as well. Now Shadab Khan into the attack.
India 45/0 after 9 overs, Rohit Sharma 18, Shikhar Dhawan 26
India is playing patiently, Nawaz had 4 dots in his over, Pakistan trying to build pressure but as long as India holds on to their wickets, they have the upper hand. Currently, India is going with a run rate of 5.
India 29/0 after 6 overs, Rohit Sharma 14, Shikhar Dhawan 15
India is off to a good and steady start with luck on their side too. Imam dropped an easy one of Rohit. This might prove fatal to them but now the Indian openers are on attacking mode. Both are opening the face of their bat. Back to back boundaries.
India 23/0 after 5 overs, Rohit Sharma 8, Shikhar Dhawan 15
India will look for a steady start and then build on it. Two boundaries in the pervious over, Dhawan is looking good while Rohit is also in form.
India 18/0 after 3 overs, Rohit Sharma 3, Shikhar Dhawan 15
India need to keep their head cool, use the pace in the initial overs to score runs. Important thing is to build the partnership. If Rohit and Dhawan stay on the crease for more than 15 overs, the match will be in India's hand.
Pakistan 232/6 after 49 overs, Shadab Khan 9, Mohammad Nawaz 13
One over to go, even 250 looks unreal, India has the complete hold on the game. They have now determined the pace of the game. After Asif's big hits, 48th by Bhuvneshwar made a good comeback, only 6 of the penultimate over
Pakistan 221/6 after 47 overs, Shadab Khan 4, Mohammad Nawaz 8
250 looks like it for Pakistan. New batsmen are on the crease, they need time to see the ball coming. However, looks good for India.
Pakistan 211/5 after 45 overs, Shadab Khan 2, Mohammad Nawaz 0
Now, 2 new batsmen are on the crease, this is unfortunate for Pak. Chahal has been the wicket-taker for India, he knows when the batsman wants to go big and that's when he goes for the googly.
Dangerous looking Asif is gone, wanted to go big against Chahal but completely missed the ball and bails went off. This brings up 50 International wickets for Chahal and a big blow to the Pakistani side.
Pakistan 205/5 after 44 overs,Shadab Khan 0, Asif Ali 26
Unlikely wicket for Pakistan but good for India, Malik was the dangerous man with 77 on board. Now Asif is the man standing for the Green Army. 250 looks like the target, however, Pakistan is known for hitting in the death overs
Pakistan 205/5 after 44 overs,Shadab Khan 0, Asif Ali 26
Shoaib Malik out! Bumrah delivers for India
Pakistan 193/4 after 42 overs, Shoaib Malik 73, Asif Ali 20
Asif Ali is going for the big shots, He has a strike rate of 175 in the death overs and now it's visible why. What hitting from Asif Ali, 2 sixes from Ali against Bhuvneshwar. Pak showing aggression.
Sarfraz Ahmed 44 out!
Big wicket! Sarfraz is walking back, Bhuvneshwar has delivered for India, the partnership was looking dangerous. He was going for the big one but the ball didn't go up in the air and went straight into fielder's hand.
Pakistan 155/3 after 37 overs, Shoaib Malik 60, Sarfraz Ahmed 39
Now India need a wicket otherwise, Pak is going for a big total. Jadeja and Kuldeep are on the attacks but Malik has started playing swiftly with Sarfraz rotating the strike and keeping the score moving.
Pakistan 141/3 after 35 overs, Shoaib Malik 50, Sarfraz Ahmed 35
Fifty for Malik, Bhuvneshwar and Jadeja are on the attacks but the Sarfraz-Malik partnership looks solid. India need a wicket right now to put the pressure back on the Pakistani team.
Pakistan 134/3 after 33 overs, Shoaib Malik 47, Sarfraz Ahmed 31
Malik is inching towards his fifty and a partnership is starting to build between Sarfraz and Malik. Bhuvneshwar is back into the attack. Pak is now at a reasonably good position.
Pakistan 128/3 after 31 overs, Shoaib Malik 43, Sarfraz Ahmed 30
It's important for Pakistan to keep wickets into hand and hit big strokes towards the end of the innings. Meanwhile, Jadhav is back into the attack. Malik seems to have started, 2 big strokes from him in the 31st over
Pakistan 113/3 after 29 overs, Shoaib Malik 35, Sarfraz Ahmed 22
Malik is getting started, a partnership is starting to build, Pakistan need to maintain the momentum and it'll pave way back into the game
Pakistan 99/3 after 27 overs, Shoaib Malik 24, Sarfraz Ahmed 19
Now Kedar Jadhav is into attack. Both Sarfraz and Malik are making it look smooth but Pakistan is under pressure. Respectable start for Jadhav, only 3 from his over
Pakistan 96/3 after 26 overs, Shoaib Malik 22, Sarfraz Ahmed 18
All Pakistan need to do is develop a partnership. They need to forge a big partnership if they want to be in the game. Right now India seems to be on top. Current run rate is 3.76
Pakistan 90/3 after 24 overs, Shoaib Malik 20, Sarfraz Ahmed 14
The current run rate is 3.58. It's a negative start for Pakistan but all can change if Malik and Sarfaraz can stick to their bats.
Pakistan 82/3 after 22 overs, Shoaib Malik 13, Sarfraz Ahmed 13
This is THE partnership for Pakistan. It's the make or break partnership for them, however, if India can dislodge one of them, the match will be a walk in a park and final berth will be India's
Pakistan 71/3 after 20 overs, Shoaib Malik 9, Sarfraz Ahmed 6
Another wicket and it'll all be a cakewalk for India. Sarfaraz needs to play the skipper's knock. Malik needs to make use of his abundance of experience. He's good against the spinners as well. However still slow for Pakistan.
Pakistan 64/3 after 18 overs, Shoaib Malik 3, Sarfraz Ahmed 5
Not everything is lost, Pakistan can resurrect. All they need is a strong partnership in the middle over and keep rotating the strike. When a bad ball comes, big shots will come on their own.
Pakistan 60/3 after 17 overs, Shoaib Malik 1, Sarfraz Ahmed 3
63 dot balls in first 16 overs. Pakistan under pressure. One way to keep pressure away is to rotate the strike, keep singles coming in. But that's not happening. Disappointing batting from Pakistan, brilliant bowling by India
This time it's Babar walking back, Pakistani batting lineup is falling like a house of cards. Looks like the pressure is getting to Pakistan. Sarfaraz Ahmed is out to bat, the Green Army need its skipper to have a captain knock
Dangerous Fakhar Zaman walks back, Kuldeep has got him. He was starting to look dangerous. Now Pakistan is under pressure. There are no runs on scoreboard. Current run rate is low.
Pakistan 44/1 after 13 overs, Fakhar Zaman 23, Babar Azam 5
First big shot from Zaman against Kuldeep, and spinning attack from India. Zaman is known to play aggressive cricket but right now he's out of his comfort zone, playing slow cricket.
Pakistan 35/1 after 11 overs, Fakhar Zaman 16, Babar Azam 4
Slow start from Pakistan, they need to change gear now if they need game go in their favour. Right now it looks they are planning to go slow and hit runs in the last overs. But if India keeps on taking wickets, there won't be any batsman left to hit runs.
Pakistan 30/1 after 10.4 overs, Fakhar Zaman 13, Babar Azam 2
Babar has been struggling against spinners in Asia Cup. He's been dismissed thrice in the ongoing tournament. And Rohit has introduced Kuldeep Yadav with Chahal to take him on.
Pakistan 25/1 after 9 overs, Fakhar Zaman 10, Babar Azam 0
Not a good start for Pakistan, hardly any runs on board and India has got a wicket as well. Chahal got Imam in his last over and now it's the hard hitter Zaman and Babar Azam on crease
MS Dhoni gives nod to Rohit to go for review on Chahal's LBW appeal and gets the dangerous Imam walking back to the pavilion. What a call, what a ball, India puts pressure on Pakistan
Pakistan 21/0 after 7 overs, Fakhar Zaman 6, Imam-ul-Haq 10
Best opening partners for Pakistan so far, Zaman is a power hitter while Imam is good at rotating strike and keep the score moving. However, Zaman looks a little uncomfortable today. Good start for India, hardly any runs on board.
Pakistan 15/0 after 5 overs, Fakhar Zaman 4, Imam-ul-Haq 6
Fakhar needs to rotate strike, when he's hitting too hard it's going straight to the Indian fielders. Fakhar is failing to find the gap, but when he gets going, which by the way looks he'll, Pakitan will get the game in their hands
Pakistan 8/0 after 3 overs, Fakhar Zaman 1, Imam-ul-Haq 2
Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar are on attacking mode, after Bhuvi's first over Bumrah stopped the momentum and Bhuvneshwar in 3rd over kept the pressure on. Pakistani openers seem to be taking time to settle.
Pakistan 7/0 after 1 over
Quite a start for Pakistan, good for the Green Army. There was a run-out chance, but the Fakhar Zaman made it safe. If Pakistan wants to put pressure then the Pak openers have to deliver.
Round two of the mother of all battles, India vs Pakistan
If we continue to bowl the way we have, and today will be no different. If we can repeat the feats of the last two games, I'll be a happy captain, says Rohit Sharma
