Australia’s Next PM Anthony Albanese is no stranger to India

According to Australian High Commissioner to India Barry O’ Farrell, Australia’s Prime Minister-elect Anthony Albanese is no stranger to India.

The high commissioner stated on Twitter today that the Labor Party leader visited New Delhi as a backpacker in 1991 and led a legislative delegation in 2018.

“Prime Minister-elect @AlboMP is no stranger to India, having visited as a backpacker in 1991 and led a parliamentary trip there in 2018. During the campaign, he pledged to strengthen economic, strategic, and people-to-people ties between India and Australia “he added.

On Saturday, Australia’s conservative Prime Minister Scott Morrison admitted loss in national elections.

Morrisson announced his resignation as Liberal Party leader, stating “I spoke to the opposition leader and new Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, tonight, and congratulated him on his election victory.”

Labor is expected to form a government for the first time since 2013, with Anthony Albanese becoming the country’s 31st Prime Minister, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on Saturday night.

Anthony Albanese expressed gratitude to everyone who voted for him. He tweeted, “Thank you Australia. The Australian people voted for change tonight.”

The result brings the coalition’s nearly nine-year reign of terror to an end, as does Morrison’s stint as Prime Minister. Morrison was elected Prime Minister of Australia in 2018.
