The Kerala Congress banned three party members on Friday for reportedly intimidating a vegetable shop owner in Kollam for failing to contribute Rs 2,000 toward the “Bharat Jodo Yatra” fund-collecting.
“Three party employees who were complicit in a despicable incident in Kollam have been suspended without delay. They do not reflect our ideas, and their actions are unacceptable. Unlike other parties who receive corporate donations, the party is raising tiny amounts of money through crowdfunding “K Sudhakaran, the president of the Kerala Congress, stated in a tweet.
According to reports, Congress members in Kollam harassed a vegetable store owner when he refused to donate Rs 2,000 toward the fundraising effort for the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
The owner of a vegetable shop in Kollam, S. Fawaz, said that Congress employees had destroyed vegetables and damaged the shop’s weighing machine.
“When a group of Congress members arrived at the store, they requested donations for the “Bharat Jodo Yatra.” I paid them 500 rupees, but they wanted 2,000. They threw away vegetables and ruined scales. Additionally, they abused the personnel and used foul language, “reported Fawaz.
Fawaz reported the incident to the Kunnicode police department after it happened. Workers for Congress are the subject of a case under IPC sections 447, 427, and 506.
The Bharat Jodo Yatra of the Congress party, led by Rahul Gandhi, began on Friday from Kollam and was entering its eighth day. After taking a break on September 15 for one day, the Yatra began today.
The yatra, which began at Navayikkulam in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram, reached its seventh day on Wednesday.
Rahul Gandhi engaged in conversation with students at Chathannur in the Kollam district on the seventh day.
“With the distance travelled and the souls we encountered during the first week of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, we have strengthened our dedication, clarified our objectives, and expanded our family. This is the strength of unity and truth “Congress stated. The Yatra is currently in the state of Kerala and will continue there for the next 14 days.
The 3,500 km march from Kanyakumari to Kashmir will take 150 days to complete and pass through up to 12 states. The Yatra will depart from Kerala and travel through the state for the following 18 days before arriving in Karnataka on September 30. Before travelling further north, it will spend 21 days in Karnataka. Every day, the Padyatra (march) will travel 25 kilometres.
