In the Ferozepur area of Punjab, the Border Security Force (BSF) said on Wednesday that it had shot down a drone trying to cross into Indian territory from Pakistan.
In the Ferozepur area of Punjab, the Border Security Force (BSF) said on Wednesday that it had shot down a drone trying to cross into Indian territory from Pakistan.
The buzzing sound of a suspected flying object or drone entering Indian territory from Pakistan was noticed by BSF’s 136 Battalion stationed at the border at approximately 11.25 p.m. on Tuesday, the force stated in a statement.
“BSF troops fired at the drone in an attempt to thwart the incursion,” said the BSF, one of the Central Armed Police Forces mandated to guard the 3,323 km India-Pakistan border.
“During a search after first light in the concerned area, BSF troops along with Punjab Police recovered a Hexa-Copter or drone that had been brought down due to firing by BSF troops.”
The BSF further said that the area has been cordoned off and police along with concerned sister agencies informed. “Thorough search of the area in under progress.”
Earlier in October, BSF had shot down a drone that entered India in Punjab’s Amritsar sector from the Pakistan side on the International Border.
The quadcopter DJI Matrice drone was sighted by BSF soldiers on patrol near Chhana village in Amritsar about 8:30 p.m. They started firing right away, and it was shot down.
BSF authorities claim that the drone helped them recover two 2.5 kg bags of illegal narcotics.
In order to stop such illegitimate attempts from the Pakistani side, the central government recently conveyed the advice from the security forces stationed at the India-Pakistan border.
According to a document received by the ANI, of the 191 drones detected, 171 crossed the India-Pakistan border into Indian territory through the Punjab sector, while 20 were spotted in the Jammu sector.
As per the document, the “UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) observation in Indo-Pak border was seen in Punjab and Jammu frontier with effect from January 1, 2022, to September 30, 2022”.
The documents also show that most of these drones or UAVs were able to escape, but seven were shot down by members of the Border Security Force (BSF), who are stationed along the Pakistan-India border to keep an eye out for any nefarious activities being carried out by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence.
