Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday presented the Budget in the Parliament. Jaitley announced that for the safety of railways, a fund of Rs 100,000 will be created over a period of 5 years.
The Finance Minister announced Rs 55000 crore for Railways in Railway Budget 2017. Capital and development expenditure pegged at Rs 1.31 lakh cr for railways in 2017-18 from Budget.
While announcing the Rail Budget, FM Jaitley said that service charges on rail tickets booked through IRCTC will be withdrawn.
Jaitley announced to introduce metro rail policy that will create new opportunities for youth. He announced that state-run companies like IRCON and IRCTC will be listed on stock exchanges.

Arun Jaitley said,” At least 25 stations are expected to be awarded during 2017-18; 500stations to be made differently-abled friendly by providing lifts & escalators.”

In his announcement the Finance Minister even declared to make all coaches of Indian Railways to be fitted with Bio-Toilets by 2019.
Jaitley said that the main focus of railways is on ‘swachch’ railways and steps will be taken to launch dedicated trains for pilgrimage and tourism.
