In what could be perceived as a move to cripple the flying wings of Reliance ‘Jio’ Infocom Limited, Bharti Airtel announced removal of all roaming charges within India.
Keeping the competition alive, in a major announcement, Bharti Airtel said that all roaming charges for outgoing and incoming calls as well as SMSes and data usage within India will be removed.
Bharti Airtel, which still is one of India’s largest mobile phone service provider said that it’s international call rates will also be cut by up to 90 percent to as low as Rs 3/min and data charges by up to 99 percent to Rs 3/MB across popular roaming destinations.
According to the press release by the telecom giant, the company said the move will lead to ‘death of National Roaming’ from April 1.
Further adding to it, the company said that this move will also end ‘bill shocks’ as daily bill will be automatically adjusted to the price of basic one day pack even for customers who don’t buy a roaming pack.
“With this, Airtel mobile customers will be able to carry their numbers across India and the world and stay connected all the time without having to worry about high call/data charges,” it said. “Bill shocks will now be a thing of the past”.
