The opposition Congress called for a judicial investigation into alleged attempts to pay bribes to the heads of several media organisations in Bengaluru under the cover of Deepavali presents through the Chief Minister’s media coordinator against the BJP administration led by Basavaraj Bommai on Friday.

According to reports, a complaint has also been sent to the ADGP, Karnataka Lokayukta, requesting an investigation into suspected attempts to pay bribes.

The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) claimed that the administration was misusing public funds on its official Twitter account. “Where does the money come from? How much has been paid in bribes? How many were bought off? The KPCC questioned, “How many (journalists) returned?

Further stating, “We did not just run a campaign against B.S. Bommai as PayCM. This government both accepts and gives bribes. PayCM serves as the conduit for all bribes. In the same way that it bought MLAs to gain power, the government is now seeking to cover up scandals by buying media outlets.

On Twitter, a number of Congressmen, including Jairam Ramesh and Randeep Singh Surjewala, demanded an explanation from the administration. “Hats off to the brave writers of #Karnataka,” stated Mr. Surjewala, “who exposed the #BribeGate of CM Bommai & his CMO.”

The Congress started its “PayCM” campaign in September, accusing the BJP of corruption in the government.
