DCW issues notice for Delhi Police apprehending high-ranking official accused of sexual misconduct with friend's daughter, causing pregnancy.
The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has formally issued a notice to the Delhi Police to apprehend a high-ranking official within the Delhi government. The official stands accused of engaging in sexual misconduct with the daughter of a close friend.
These alleged incidents spanned multiple months and led to the young woman becoming pregnant. Swati Maliwal, the head of DCW, stated that the accused individual holds the position of Deputy Director in the Women and Child Development (WCD) Department.
“In Delhi, a government officer in the post of Deputy Director in the Women and Child Development Department has been accused of sexually abusing a girl child. The police haven’t arrested him yet. Issuing notice to the Delhi Police. If the one whose job it was to protect daughters turns into a predator, then where will the girls go! Must be arrested soon!” Swati Maliwal posted in Hindi on X (formerly Twitter).
Earlier on Monday, the Delhi Police announced that the said official had been formally charged for the purported crime of raping the minor daughter of his deceased friend. The alleged assaults are reported to have occurred between the years 2020 and 2021.
The Burari police station initiated the lodging of a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused official on August 13. The charges encompass various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) as well as the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
As per the police account, subsequent to her father’s demise—himself a government employee in Delhi—the minor girl began residing with the accused individual in Burari. This living arrangement persisted from October 2020 to February 2021.
According to the individual who filed the complaint, the accused subjected her to sexual harassment, physical molestation, and multiple instances of rape over a period spanning from 2020 to 2021.
“The girl started having anxiety bouts and was admitted to a hospital a week ago. After extensive psychological counseling, she opened up to the doctors, counselors, and police officers and revealed that she was sexually harassed by the accused, the police said.
The minor disclosed that she got pregnant and was forced to abort her pregnancy by the wife of the accused, police also added further details.
A medical and legal examination of the underage individual has been completed, and an ongoing inquiry into the situation is in progress.
