A sergeant in the Indian Air Force (IAF) has been arrested by the Delhi Police Crime Branch for allegedly leaking sensitive information concerning defense installations.
IAF officer was arrested on espionage accusations on May 6. The official was allegedly honey-trapped by a lady and ended up revealing vital information to her.
Sergeant Devendra Kumar Sharma, a Kanpur native, was detained while working as an Administrative Assistant (GD) at the Air Force Record Office in Suboroto Park, New Delhi.
According to a senior police officer, “On May 6, a Crime Branch squad from Delhi police received information concerning a Sergeant of the Indian Air Force’s suspicious behavior. It was reported that the MN had been honey-trapped and had given his contact, who was supposed to be from another country, some classified information.”
According to the police, the Pakistani intelligence organization ISI is suspected of being involved in the entire operation.
Based on this information, a squad targeted Sharma and arrested him.
Sharma had transmitted critical information on defense sites and Air Force troops to an opposing country’s agent via electronic methods after deceitfully getting the documents from computers and other files, according to the investigation.
Meanwhile, Police have also discovered some unusual transactions in the accused’s wife’s bank account.
Sharma has been charged under the Official Secrets Act by Delhi police (OSA). Incriminating evidence, such as electronic devices and documents, was confiscated throughout the inquiry, and the accused was detained.
