Elnaaz Norouzi, a protester against the hijab in Iran, shared a video of herself on Instagram on Tuesday showing herself partially undressed. The actress could be seen removing both her burqa and hijab in the video. In the video, she continues by taking off every piece of clothing.
Elnaaz Norouzi, an Iranian actress who has been speaking out in favour of the recent anti-hijab demonstrations in Iran, has once more joined the uproar of the country’s female citizens.
Elnaaz Norouzi protested by posting a video of herself on Instagram on Tuesday while still partially clothed. The actress could be seen removing both her burqa and hijab in the video.
“Every woman should have the freedom to dress however she pleases, whenever she pleases, and wherever she pleases, no matter where she is from in the globe. No guy or other woman has the right to criticise her or demand that she dress differently, according to the description of the video.
“Everyone has various opinions, and those opinions and ideas must be respected. Democracy is the ability to make decisions. Every woman should be able to make decisions regarding her own body! I’m advocating for freedom of choice, not nudity! Added Elnaaz Norouzi.
It should be highlighted that Mahsa Amini’s death at the age of 22 has led to widespread opposition to the hijab in Iran. After being held by morality police who were strictly enforcing the country’s hijab restrictions, Mahsa Amini passed away on September 16.
Amini was detained by the Guidance Patrol, the Iranian government’s religious morality police, for not donning the hijab properly—too loosely, with some hair visible. She reportedly suffered a heart attack at the police station and was taken immediately to the hospital, according to the police. She passed away, though, while receiving medical attention at the hospital.
On the other hand, eyewitnesses, including the ladies who were jailed alongside Amini, said that she was brutally assaulted and that this led to her death. They also claimed that this was the case.
Thousands of Iranian women have protested this by taking to the streets and setting their hijabs on fire. In a show of dissent, some female protesters also took off their hijabs and chopped off their hair in public.
According to a report, the protests in response to Amini’s death on September 16 are thought to have resulted in the deaths of 185 people, including at least 19 children. It has been reported that the unrest has also claimed the lives of 14 members of Iran’s security forces.
The anti-hijab rallies in Iran have recently received backing from Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra.
